This assistance will be provided to eligible homeowners as a non-interest bearing loan secured by a junior lien against the property. You are not required to make payments on this loan. The loan will be forgiven, and the lien released, after two (2) years from the date assistance was provided. However, if you sell or refinance the property prior to the loan forgiveness date, you may be required to pay back the assistance from the proceeds of the sale or refinance of your home, provided there is sufficient net equity to do so. Homeowners who refuse to sign the Keep Your Home California Promissory Note, Deed of Trust and/or Benefit Award letter will be ineligible to receive Keep Your Home California assistance.
